A Cue…
Most of the time, this is a verbal word or words that can help a dog remember a hard mark. You could use words such as mark, watch, easy, etc. A cue can also be a hand cue if you used your hand over the dog before the mark was thrown when showing the dog the birds. Cues are a personal preference and can sometimes be overused and get the handler too involved in the dog’s marking, so keep that in mind, especially in training. I think it’s important to stay out of the dog’s marks in training – marking the birds is his job. It’s important to train with flyers as this really helps with your dog’s attitude, which is the key to you and your dog’s success.
